Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project construction continues throughout the corridor during daytime and overnight hours as weather conditions allow.
The shared-use path is now open on the new Vaden Drive Bridge near the Vienna Metrorail Station.
Significant upcoming traffic impacts include:
- During the overnight hours of December 11, I-66 East will be reduced to one travel lane approaching Route 29 (Lee Highway) in Gainesville with traffic diverted to the eastbound collector-distributor lane so that a lane shift can be implemented on I-66 East.
- During the overnight hours of December 14, the 495 Express Lanes South approaching I-66 will be closed for overhead bridge work at I-66, with all traffic directed to the I-495 South general purpose lanes. There will also be lane closures and stoppages of up to 20 minutes on the general purpose lanes approaching I-66. Details
- During the overnight hours of December 14-17, I-66 East and West will be reduced to one travel lane with stoppages of up to 20 minutes approaching Gallows Road for overhead bridge work at Gallows Road. Gallows Road over I-66 will be reduced to a single lane in each direction for bridge beam installation and utility work. Two-way traffic will run in the southbound lanes of Gallows Road. Details
- During the overnight hours of December 14 and 15, I-66 East and West will have lane closures and stoppages of up to 20 minutes approaching Jermantown Road for overhead bridge work at Jermantown Road. Details
- Between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. on December 13, the ramp from I-66 West to Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road) North will be closed for paving operations. Details
- In the early morning hours on/about Tuesday, December 15, the new, permanent ramp from I-66 West to Route 234 Business (Sudley Road) South will open. Drivers will access the new ramp by taking the exit from I-66 West to Route 234 Business North, then staying to the left for the ramp to Route 234 Business South. Details
- During the overnight hours of December 16-18, I-66 East will have lane closures and stoppages of up to 20 minutes approaching Vaden Drive for overhead bridge work at Vaden Drive. Details
- In the early morning hours on/about Wednesday, December 16, the new, permanent ramp from I-66 West to the Braddock Road/Walney Road Overpass will open. Drivers will access the new ramp by taking the exit from I-66 West to Route 28 North, then staying to the left for the ramp to Braddock Road/Walney Road. Details
- Starting at 9 p.m. December 18, through 5 a.m. December 21, Route 29 (Lee Highway) Centreville will be reduced to a single travel lane in each direction under I-66 for bridge demolition. On December 18, two-way traffic will run in the northbound lanes of Route 29 with all southbound lanes closed. Then, on December 19, beginning at 9 p.m. two-way traffic will run in the southbound lanes of Route 29 with all northbound lanes closed. During the overnight hours a flagger will alternate a single lane of traffic in both directions.
- There will be overnight closures of the following ramp: Route 28 North to Braddock Road/Walney Road (December 14-18). Details

- Bridge demolition on I-66 bridges over Route 29 Centreville
- Paving on I-66 East and West in Prince William County, Centreville, and Vienna
- Constructing bridge foundations at Route 28, Stringfellow Road, Route 50, Route 123, and I-495
- Small charge dynamite operations along Braddock Road, and I-66 East and West near Route 28
- Bridge deck work for expanded bridges over Compton Road, Cub Run, and Bull Run
- Bridge deck work for new bridges at Route 50, Jermantown Road, Route 123, Cedar Lane, Gallows Road, and I-495 bridges over I-66
- Relocating underground utilities along I-66 East and West
- Earthwork and drainage along I-66 East and West
- Constructing retaining walls and noise walls along I-66 and Route 28
- Corridor-wide roadway maintenance as needed

ROUTE 29 (LEE HIGHWAY) / GAINESVILLE
I-66 East from Route 29 (Lee Highway) Gainesville to Groveton Road
Friday, December 11, and Saturday, December 12: 8 p.m. to 9 a.m.
Eastbound I-66 will be reduced to a single travel lane approaching Route 29 (Lee Highway) for crews to implement a traffic shift. Between 10 p.m. Friday night, December 11, and 7 a.m. Saturday morning, December 12, all traffic will be diverted to the eastbound collector-distributor lane. All lanes will reopen by 9 a.m.
ROUTE 234 BUSINESS (SUDLEY ROAD) / MANASSAS
I-66 East from Route 234 Business (Sudley Road) to Manassas Safety Rest Area
Tuesday, December 15, through Friday, December 18: 11 a.m. to noon
Temporary 15-minute stoppages of traffic for blasting operations.
I-66 West from Cub Run to Route 234 Business
Sunday, December 13, through Saturday, December 19: 9 p.m. to 7 a.m.
Sunday, December 13, through Saturday, December 19: 5 a.m. to 2 p.m. (back up in the event of inclement overnight weather)
Multi-lane closures will be implemented for paving operations. Two travel lanes will be closed between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m. nightly, leaving two travel lanes open. Between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. nightly, an additional lane will be closed, leaving one travel lane open. If weather conditions prohibit overnight work, westbound I-66 will be reduced to two travel lanes during daytime hours December 13-19 from 5 a.m. to 2 p.m.
ROUTE 29 (LEE HIGHWAY) / CENTREVILLE
I-66 West between Route 28 and Route 29 (Lee Highway) Centreville
Monday, December 14: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Three lanes will be closed for overhead gantry removal. Drivers should expect periodic 20-minute stoppages between midnight and 4 a.m.
Route 29 Centreville North and South at I-66
Starting 9 p.m. Friday, December 18, continuously through 5 a.m. Monday, December 21
Route 29 will be reduced to a single travel lane in each direction under I-66 to allow for demolition of the old I-66 bridges over Route 29. Beginning at 9 p.m. on Friday night, December 18, two-way traffic will run in the northbound lanes of Route 29. Starting at 9 p.m. on Saturday night, December 19, two-way traffic will run in the southbound lanes of Route 29. Drivers using ramps to and from I-66 will not be allowed to make left turns during this time. A flagger will alternate a single lane of traffic in both directions during overnight hours.

Traffic will be detoured to I-66 West, to Nutley Street North, continue to the intersection with Virginia Center Boulevard, stay to the left and make a U-turn from the left-most turn lane at the traffic signal on to Nutley Street South, stay to the left and turn left at the traffic signal to I-66 East, then follow signs to I-495 South.
