Lane closures and traffic changes on I-66 outside the Beltway for the week of Jan. 20 are listed below.

What’s Happening

There are no closures planned over Martin Luther King Jr. Day weekend.
Upcoming construction activities include:
  • Bridge abutment construction at Route 28 and I-495
  • Constructing box culverts inside the Route 123 Interchange for shared use path
  • Constructing retaining walls near Jermantown Road
  • Grading, excavating, and clearing trees and brush and drainage installation at the Route 28, Route 123, Route 50, and I-495 interchanges and other work zone locations along the corridor
  • Grading, excavating, and small charge blasting for storm drain trenches at the future University Boulevard Park and Ride Lot
  • Grading and excavating for the new E.C. Lawrence Park Access Road
  • Relocation of underground and overhead utilities along I-66 and Route 28

Upcoming Lane Closures and Traffic Changes

ROUTE 29 (LEE HIGHWAY) / GAINESVILLE

University Boulevard between Route 29 and I-66 
Tuesday, Jan.  22 and Thursday, Jan. 24: 11:00 a. m. to 12:00 noon
Traffic will be temporarily stopped for up to 15 minutes for small charge blasting operations at the future Park and Ride lot. Additionally, the turn lanes from Route 29 to University Boulevard will be temporarily closed for 15 minutes beginning at 11:00 a. m.

ROUTE 234 BUSINESS (SUDLEY ROAD) / MANASSAS

I-66 East from Route 234 (Sudley Road) to Bull Run Rest Stop
Wednesday, Jan. 23 – Thursday, Jan, 24: 10:00 a. m. to 6 ;00 p. m.
Multi-lane closures are planned as crews mill and repave to repair potholes.
I-66 West from Route 234 (Sudley Road) to Groveton Road
Wednesday, Jan. 23 – Thursday, Jan, 24: 10:00 a. m. to 6 ;00 p. m.
Multi-lane closures are planned as crews mill and repave to repair potholes.

ROUTE 28 (SULLY ROAD) / CENTREVILLE

Route 28 North and South from E.C. Lawrence Park to Westfields Boulevard
Wednesday, Jan. 23: 12:00 Midnight – 4:00 a. m.
Slow-roll operations on all travel lanes with intermittent stoppages during overnight hours for utility survey.

ROUTE 286 (FAIRFAX COUNTY PARKWAY)

No significant traffic impacts scheduled.

ROUTE 50 / FAIRFAX

No significant traffic impacts scheduled.

ROUTE 123 (CHAIN BRIDGE ROAD) / OAKTON – CITY OF FAIRFAX

I-66 East and West from Chain Bridge Road (Route 123) to Gallows Road
Friday, Jan. 25: 9:00 p. m. – 9:00 a. m.
Three lanes closed in each direction with periodic 20-minute stoppages between 12:00 midnight and 5:00 a. m. to remove an overhead gantry.

ROUTE 243 (NUTLEY STREET) / VIENNA

I-66 East and West from Chain Bridge Road (Route 123) to Gallows Road
Friday, Jan. 25: 9:00 p. m. – 9:00 a. m.
Three lanes closed in each direction with periodic 20-minute stoppages between 12:00 midnight and 5:00 a. m. to remove an overhead gantry.
I-66 East and West from Blake Lane to I-495
Saturday, Jan. 26: 9:00 p. m. – 9:00 a. m.
Three lanes closed in each direction with periodic 20-minute stoppages between 12:00 midnight and 5:00 a. m. to remove an overhead gantry.

I-495 (CAPITAL BELTWAY)

I-66 East and West from Blake Lane to I-495
Saturday, Jan. 26: 9:00 p. m. – 9:00 a. m.
Three lanes closed of eastbound and westbound I-66 with periodic 20-minute stoppages between 12:00 midnight and 5:00 a. m. to remove an overhead gantry.
