Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project construction continues throughout the corridor during daytime and overnight hours as weather conditions allow.
The Cedar Lane bridge over I-66 is planned to close for six months beginning May 15 for demolition and reconstruction. Watch an informational video, share your feedback, and learn more about construction, detours, and bus changes here.
Significant upcoming traffic impacts include:
- Overnight closure of the ramp from I-66 East to Route 28 North (May 10-June 14) and I-66 East to the 495 Express Lanes North and South (May 12 and May 13) Details
- The left lane on I-66 West from Route 234 Business (Sudley Road) to Route 29 (Lee Highway) Gainesville will remain closed for an extended paving operation Details
- Detours remain in place following the permanent closure of the two left-turn lanes from Route 28 North to Braddock Road, and the spur ramp from I-66 West to Braddock Road. Traffic on Route 28 North will be temporarily directed farther north to Westfields Boulevard to access Braddock Road. Details

- Paving on I-66 West in Prince William County, and on Route 28 North and South in Centreville
- Constructing bridge foundations at Route 29, Route 28, Route 50, Waples Mill Road, Jermantown Road, Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road), Vaden Drive, and I-495
- Small charge dynamite operations along Route 28, I-66 East and West near Route 28, and I-66 West near Route 234 Business
- Bridge deck work for expanded bridge over Compton Road, Cub Run, new Route 28 bridge over I-66, and new Poplar Tree Road bridge over Route 28
- Relocating water lines at Cedar Lane and Gallows Road
- Relocating underground utilities along I-66 East and West
- Constructing retaining walls along I-66 and Route 28
- Corridor-wide roadway maintenance as needed

ROUTE 29 / GAINESVILLE
Route 29 North and South from Heathcote Boulevard to University Boulevard
Monday, April 20, through Friday, May 15: 900 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.
Two lanes will be closed on northbound Route 29, and one lane will be closed on southbound Route 29 for drainage installation.
I-66 West from Route 234 Business to Route 29 Gainesville
Ongoing
Single and multi-lane closures will be implemented for extended paving operations. The HOV lane will be closed indefinitely. Between 12:00 noon and 8:00 p.m. daily, three travel lanes will be open to all traffic. Between 8:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. nightly, three lanes will be closed, leaving one travel lane open. Between 6:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon daily, two lanes will be closed, leaving two travel lanes open.
ROUTE 234 BUSINESS (SUDLEY ROAD) / MANASSAS
I-66 East from Groveton Road to Route 234 Business
Monday, May 11: 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.
Three left lanes will be closed for overhead gantry removal. Drivers should expect periodic 20-minute stoppages between 12:00 midnight and 4:00 a.m.
I-66 West from Route 234 Business to Route 29 Gainesville
