Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project construction continues throughout the corridor during daytime and overnight hours as weather conditions allow.
The Transform 66 project team held virtual construction update meetings on October 28 and 29. View the presentations and video of the online meetings here.
Significant upcoming traffic impacts include:
- Beginning November 2 for about three weeks, Shreve Road near Oldewood Drive will be reduced to a single lane. Alternating two-way traffic will be controlled by a temporary traffic signal. Details
- During the overnight hours of November 3, travel lanes of Route 28 North between Route 29 (Lee Highway) and I-66 will be shifted to their new permanent alignment. Drivers traveling from Route 28 North to I-66 East will temporarily access the exit ramp from the left-most lanes. Due to the temporary alignment of the left exit, drivers traveling from Route 29 South to Route 28 North will not be able to access I-66 East and will be directed farther east to the I-66/Route 29 Centreville Interchange to access I-66 East. - During the overnight hours of November 4-6, I-66 East will be reduced to one travel lane with stoppages of up to 20 minutes approaching Jermantown Road for overhead bridge work at Jermantown Road. I-66 West will also be reduced to two travel lanes with brief stoppages of up to 20 minutes approaching Jermantown Road. Details
- During the overnight hours of November 2-6, I-66 East and West will be reduced to one travel lane with stoppages of up to 10 minutes approaching Gallows Road for overhead bridge work at Gallows Road. Details
- During the overnight hours of November 2-6, Gallows Road over I-66 will be reduced to a single lane in each direction for bridge beam installation and utility work. Two-way traffic will run in the southbound lanes of Gallows Road. Details
- Beginning at 8 p.m. November 5, the right turn from Route 28 South to Braddock Road will be closed permanently.
- Braddock Road East will be temporarily closed at Newton Patent Drive November 6-8 for crews to implement a traffic pattern change.
- There will be overnight closures of the following ramps: Route 50 East to I-66 East (November 3-6), I-66 East to Nutley Street South (November 6-8), 495 Express Lanes North to I-66 West (November 2-6), I-66 East to Nutley Street North (November 2), Route 29 South to Route 28 North (November 3), I-66 East to Route 29 Centreville (November 6), Route 28 South to I-66 West (November 6-8), and I-66 East to Route 234 (Prince William Parkway) (November 1-7). - Constructing bridge foundations at Route 28, Stringfellow Road, Route 50, Route 123, and I-495
- Small charge dynamite operations along Braddock Road, I-66 East and West near Route 28, and I-66 East and West near Groveton Road in Manassas
- Bridge deck work for expanded bridges over Compton Road, Cub Run, Bull Run, Route 29 Centreville
- Bridge deck work for new bridges at Braddock Road/Walney Road over Route 28, and at Waples Mill Road, Route 123, Vaden Drive, Cedar Lane, Gallows Road, and I-495 bridges over I-66
- Relocating underground utilities along I-66 East and West
- Earthwork and drainage along I-66 East and West, and Route 29
- Constructing retaining walls along I-66 and Route 28

ROUTE 29 (LEE HIGHWAY) / GAINESVILLE
Ramp from I-66 East to Route 234 (Prince William Parkway)
Sunday, November 1, through Thursday, November 5: 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Friday, November 6, and Saturday, November 7: 11 p.m. to 6 a.m.
The ramp will be closed. Traffic will be detoured farther east to Route 234 Business (Sudley Road) South, turn right on to Balls Ford Road, then travel about two miles west to Route 234.
I-66 East from Route 29 (Lee Highway) Gainesville to Route 234 Business (Sudley Road)

Single and multi-lane closures will be implemented for extended paving operations. The HOV lane will be closed indefinitely. Weekdays between 4 a.m. and 10 a.m. daily, three travel lanes will be open to traffic. Between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. daily, two lanes will be closed, leaving two travel lanes open. Between 8 p.m. and 4 a.m. nightly, three lanes will be closed, leaving one travel lane open.

Eastbound Braddock Road will be temporarily closed at Newton Patent Drive for crews to implement a traffic pattern change. Traffic will be detoured to eastbound Westfields Boulevard to access Route 28.

The ramp will be closed. Traffic will be directed to stay to the left and continue farther east to Waples Mill Road. At the traffic signal drivers will use the left-most left turn lane only to make a U-turn onto Route 50 West, then stay to the right and follow signs to I-66 East.
Waples Mill Road over I-66

Traffic will be shifted on to the new Waples Mill Road Bridge and two-way travel will be restored.
