Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project construction continues throughout the corridor during daytime and overnight hours as weather conditions allow.
The Transform 66 project team held virtual construction update meetings on October 28 and 29. View the presentations and video of the online meetings here.
Significant upcoming traffic impacts include:
- During the overnight hours of November 15-20, I-66 East will have lane closures and stoppages of up to 10 minutes approaching Jermantown Road for overhead bridge work at Jermantown Road. During the nights of November 18-20, there will be lane closures and stoppages on I-66 West. Details
- During the overnight hours of November 16-19, I-66 East and West will be reduced to one travel lane with stoppages of up to 10 minutes approaching Gallows Road for overhead bridge work at Gallows Road.
- Beginning on or about the morning of November 20, the new, permanent ramp from Route 28 North to I-66 East will open. Drivers will access the new ramp from the right-most lanes of Route 28 North. The ramp opening will end the temporary detour for drivers traveling from Route 29 (Lee Highway) South to I-66 East via Route 28 North.
- From 9 p.m. November 20, through 5 a.m. November 23, the ramp from I-66 West to Route 234 Business (Sudley Road) North will be closed. Details
- Beginning on or about the morning of November 21, the loop ramp from I-66 East to Nutley Street North will close. Drivers will access Nutley Street North by taking the current exit from I-66 East to Nutley Street South, stay to the left to use a new temporary ramp, and turn left at a temporary traffic signal on to northbound Nutley Street. - There will be overnight closures of the following ramps: I-66 West to Route 29 Centreville (November 13), I-66 East to Nutley Street South (November 13-14), 495 Express Lanes North to I-66 West (November 16-19), I-66 East to Route 29 Centreville (November 16-20), Route 28 North to I-66 East (November 19-21), Route 29 South to Route 28 North (November 19-21), and I-66 East to Route 234 (Prince William Parkway) (November 20).
Current activities include:
- Paving on I-66 East and West in Prince William County, Centreville, and Vienna
- Installing bridge beams at Jermantown Road
- Constructing bridge foundations at Route 28, Stringfellow Road, Route 50, Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road), and I-495
- Small charge dynamite operations along Braddock Road, I-66 East and West near Route 28, and I-66 East and West near Groveton Road in Manassas
- Bridge deck work for expanded bridges over Compton Road, Cub Run, Bull Run, and Route 29 Centreville
- Bridge deck work for new bridges at Braddock Road/Walney Road over Route 28, and at Waples Mill Road, Route 123, Vaden Drive, Cedar Lane, Gallows Road, and I-495 bridges over I-66
- Relocating underground utilities along I-66 East and West
- Earthwork and drainage along I-66 East and West
- Constructing retaining walls along I-66 and Route 28
- Corridor-wide roadway maintenance as needed

ROUTE 29 (LEE HIGHWAY) / GAINESVILLE
I-66 East from Route 29 (Lee Highway) Gainesville to Route 234 (Prince William Parkway)
Saturday, November 14: 9 p.m. to 9 a.m.
Friday, November 20: 9 p.m. to 8 a.m.
Three right lanes will be closed for crews to relocate barrier and to implement a traffic shift on the collector-distributor lane.
Ramp from I-66 East to Route 234
Thursday, November 19: 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Friday, November 20: 9 p.m. to 7 a.m.
Saturday, November 21: 11 p.m. to 6 a.m.
The ramp will be closed. Traffic will be detoured farther east to Route 234 Business South, turn right on to Balls Ford Road, then travel about two miles west to Route 234.
Ramp from Route 29 North Gainesville to I-66 East
Friday, November 20: 9 p.m. to 8 a.m.
The ramp will be reduced to one travel lane for crews to implement a traffic shift.
I-66 East from Route 29 Gainesville to Route 234 Business

Single and multi-lane closures will be implemented for extended paving operations. The HOV lane will be closed indefinitely. Weekdays between 4 a.m. and 10 a.m. daily, three travel lanes will be open to traffic. Between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. daily, two lanes will be closed, leaving two travel lanes open. Between 8 p.m. and 4 a.m. nightly, three lanes will be closed, leaving one travel lane open.
ROUTE 234 BUSINESS (SUDLEY ROAD) / MANASSAS
I-66 West from Cub Run to Bull Run Drive
Tuesday, November 17, through Thursday, November 19: 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Two lanes will be closed for overhead bridge work.
I-66 West from Bull Run to Route 234 Business
Thursday, November 19: 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Friday, November 20: 9 p.m. to 9 a.m.
Three lanes will be closed for crews to place pavement markings and implement lane shifts.
Ramp from I-66 West to Route 234 Business North
Starting at 10 p.m. Friday, November 20, through 5 a.m. Monday, November 23
The ramp will be closed. Traffic will be detoured to Route 234 Business South, continue to the intersection with Balls Ford Road, stay to the left and make a U-turn from the left-most left turn lane at the traffic signal on to Route 234 Business North.
I-66 East and West between Cub Run and the Manassas Rest Area
Saturday, November 21: 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Two lanes will be closed for bridge work at Bull Run.
I-66 East from Route 29 Gainesville to Route 234 Business

The ramp will be closed. Traffic will be directed prior to the closure to take the exit for Route 28 South, then follow signs to Route 29 South.
Ramp from I-66 East to Route 29 Centreville
Sunday night, November 15, through Friday night, November 20: Midnight to 4 a.m.
The ramp will be closed. Traffic will be detoured farther east to Route 286 (Fairfax County Parkway) North, stay to the right for I-66 West, then follow signs to Route 29.

Friday night, November 20, and Saturday night, November 21: Midnight to 5 a.m.
The ramp will be closed. To reach Route 28 North and/or I-66 East, traffic will be detoured farther south to the I-66/Route 29 Centreville Interchange, stay to the right and follow signs to I-66 East. Drivers heading to Route 28 North should travel farther east and follow signs to Route 28 North.

Tuesday, November 17: 11 p.m. to 4 a.m.
Traffic stoppages are planned in both directions simultaneously, so that Dominion Energy can perform a line relocation. Up to three 20-minute stoppages of both eastbound and westbound I-66 are planned to occur to accommodate this work.
