The lane closures and traffic changes along I-66 outside the Beltway the week of Sept. 30 are listed below.

What’s Happening

Crews continue shifting travel lanes and setting up concrete barriers to create safe work zones along Interstate 66. Other upcoming planned construction activities include:
  • Grading, excavating, and clearing trees and brush at the Route 28 Interchange and other work zone locations
  • Paving in the newly-widened median between Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road) and Blake Lane to support upcoming traffic shifts
  • Rubblizing* the shoulder along I-66 East near Route 28
  • Grading and drainage work continue at the future University Boulevard Park and Ride Lot
  • Grading and excavating will begin for the new E.C. Lawrence Park Access Road
  • Temporary relocating of underground and overhead utilities along I-66
*The existing concrete will be broken into rubble to create a new roadway base at the same location. This recycling reduces waste and project cost, in addition to requiring fewer lane closures than traditional road reconstruction methods.
