I-66 Outside the Beltway Lane Closures, Traffic Changes Week of Aug. 26

What’s Happening
Crews continue shifting travel lanes and setting up concrete barriers to create safe work zones along Interstate 66 for the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project. Upcoming planned construction activities:
  • Lane shifts continue at the Route 29 (Centreville) Interchange, along Route 28, and between Nutley Street and I-495
  • Crews continue to remove overhead gantries and signage along I-66 between Route 28 and Route 123, with intermittent late-night traffic stoppages
  • Temporary relocation of underground utilities continues along I-66 near Jermantown Road
  • Work continues to widen the inside median between Route 123 and Blake Lane to support upcoming traffic shifts
  • Clearing of trees and brush in areas where work zones are in place

ROUTE 29 / GAINESVILLE
No significant traffic impacts scheduled.
ROUTE 234 (SUDLEY ROAD) / MANASSAS
I-66 East from Prince William Parkway to Sudley Road
Sunday, Aug. 26: 8:00 p. m. to 5:00 a.m .
Multi-lane closures with intermittent stoppages between 12:00 midnight and 4:00 a. m. to remove overhead gantries and signage.
ROUTE 28 (SULLY ROAD) / CENTREVILLE
I-66 East Between Route 29 in Centreville and Route 28
Monday, Aug. 27 – Tuesday, Aug. 28: 9:00 p. m. to 5:00 a. m.
Multi-lane closures with intermittent stoppages between 12:00 midnight and 4:00 a. m. to remove overhead gantries and signage.
 
I-66 East Between Route 29 in Centreville and Stringfellow Road
Tuesday, Aug. 28 – Wednesday, Aug. 29: 9:00 p. m. to 5:00 a. m.
Multi-lane closures with intermittent stoppages between 12:00 midnight and 4:00 a. m. to remove overhead gantries and signage.
I-66 West from Route 28 to Route 29 in Centreville
Tuesday, Aug. 28 – Thursday, Aug. 30: 8:00 p. m. to 5:00 a. m.
Three left lanes will be closed to implement long-term lane shifts for construction.
ROUTE 286 (FAIRFAX COUNTY PARKWAY)
No significant traffic impacts scheduled.
ROUTE 50 / FAIRFAX
No significant traffic impacts scheduled.
ROUTE 123 (CHAIN BRIDGE ROAD) / OAKTON – CITY OF FAIRFAX
Ramp from I-66 East to Route 123 South
Thursday, Aug. 30: 12:00 Midnight to 4:00 a. m.
Full ramp closure to allow for gantry removal and other construction activities. Traffic will be detoured to the Nutley Street Interchange.
Ramp from Route 123 South to I-66 West
Thursday, Aug. 30:12:00 Midnight to 4:00 a. m.
Full ramp closure to allow for gantry removal and other construction activities.Traffic will be detoured to the I-66 East ramp, then ride the ramps to I-66 West.
Route 123 South from White Granite Drive to I-66
Thursday, Aug. 30: 9:00 p. m. to 5:00 a. m.
Single-lane closure with intermittent stoppages between 12:00 midnight and 4:00 a. m. to remove overhead gantries and signage.
Route 123 North from Eaton Place to I-66
Thursday, Aug. 30: 9:00 p. m. to 5:00 a. m.
Single-lane closure with intermittent stoppages between 12:00 midnight and 4:00 a. m.. to remove overhead gantries and signage.
ROUTE 243 (NUTLEY STREET) / VIENNA
I-66 East between Nutley Street and I-495
Sunday, Aug. 26: 8:00 p. m. to 5:00 a. m. and Monday, Aug. 27: 9:00 p. m. to 5:00 a. m.
Three left lanes closed to implement long-term lane shifts for construction.
