Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project construction continues throughout the corridor during daytime and overnight hours as weather conditions allow.
This weekend, March 5-8, there will be overnight full closures of I-66 East and West at Route 28 in Centreville for bridge demolition. Details
 During the overnight hours on March 7-8, two-way traffic will travel in a single lane in each direction on I-66 West at Route 50 for bridge beam installation. Details
During the overnight hours on March 9-10, there will be full closures of I-66 West at Route 50 for bridge beam installation. Details

Significant upcoming traffic impacts include:

  • During the overnight hours March 9-11, I-66 East approaching Waples Mill Road, will be reduced to one travel lane with traffic stoppages for overhead bridge demolition. Details
  • During the overnight hours on March 12, I-66 East and West approaching Waples Mill Road will be reduced to one travel lane each way with traffic stoppages for overhead bridge demolition. Details
  • Overnight ramp closures are planned at the following I-66 interchanges: I-495, Route 50, Monument Drive, Route 28, and Route 29 (Lee Highway) Centreville.

Current activities include:

  • Bridge beam installation at the I-66/Route 50 Interchange
  • Bridge demolition at Route 28 and Waples Mill Road
  • Bridge deck pours at Jermantown Road
  • Paving on I-66 East and West in Prince William County, Centreville, and Vienna
  • Constructing bridge foundations at Route 28, Route 50, Route 123, and I-495
  • Small charge dynamite operations along Braddock Road, and I-66 East and West near Route 28
  • Bridge deck work for expanded bridges over Compton Road, Cub Run, and Bull Run
  • Bridge deck work for new bridges at Route 50, Jermantown Road, Gallows Road, and I-495 bridges over I-66
  • Relocating underground utilities along I-66 East and West
  • Earthwork and drainage along I-66 East and West
  • Constructing retaining walls and noise walls along I-66 and Route 28
  • Corridor-wide roadway maintenance as needed

ROUTE 29 (LEE HIGHWAY) / GAINESVILLE

I-66 East from Route 29 (Lee Highway) Gainesville to University Boulevard
Monday, March 8, and Tuesday, March 9: 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
I-66 East will be reduced to one travel lane approaching University Boulevard. Drivers should expect periodic stoppages of up to 30 minutes between 11 p.m. and 4 a.m.
I-66 West from Prince William Parkway (Route 234 Bypass) to University Boulevard
Wednesday, March 10: 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
I-66 West will be reduced to one travel lane approaching University Boulevard. Drivers should expect periodic stoppages of up to 30 minutes between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m.
University Boulevard at I-66
Ongoing, evening and overnight hours beginning Sunday, March 7, through mid-day Friday, March 12
University Boulevard over I-66 will be reduced to a single travel lane in each direction beginning Sunday evening, March 7. On Monday, March 8, through Wednesday, March 10, from 6 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly, northbound University Boulevard over I-66 will be closed with alternating two-way traffic flagged in a single lane on the southbound side of University Boulevard.

ROUTE 234 BUSINESS (SUDLEY ROAD) / MANASSAS

No significant traffic impacts scheduled

ROUTE 29 (LEE HIGHWAY) / CENTREVILLE

I-66 East from Route 29 (Lee Highway) to Route 28
Friday, March 5: 10 p.m. to 8 a.m.
Two lanes will be closed approaching Route 28 for overhead bridge demolition.
I-66 East at Route 29
Saturday, March 6: 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Sunday, March 7, and Monday, March 8: 10 p.m. to 4 a.m.
Full closure of I-66 East at Route 29 Centreville. All traffic will be directed to exit at Route 29, stay to the right to Route 29 North, continue north to the ramp for Route 28 North, then stay to the right and follow signs to I-66 East. All lanes will reopen by 8 a.m. Sunday; by 5 a.m. Monday and Tuesday.
Ramp from Route 29 North and South to I-66 East
Saturday, March 6: 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Sunday, March 7, and Monday, March 8: 10 p.m. to 4 a.m.
The ramp will be closed. Southbound Route 29 traffic will be detoured farther south, stay to the left and make a U-turn at O’Day Drive on to Route 29 North, stay to the right to Route 28 North, then stay to the right and follow signs to I-66 East. Northbound Route 29 traffic will be directed farther north to Route 28 North, then stay to the right and follow signs to I-66 East.
Ramp from I-66 East to Route 29 South
Saturday, March 6: 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Sunday, March 7, and Monday, March 8: 10 p.m. to 4 a.m.
The ramp will be closed. Traffic will be directed to stay to the right to Route 29 North, then stay to the left and make a U-turn from the left-most left turn lane at the Trinity Parkway/Centrewood Drive traffic signal on to Route 29 South.
I-66 West from west of Route 29 Centreville to Cub Run

The HOV lane will be closed for retaining wall construction.

ROUTE 28 (SULLY ROAD) / CENTREVILLE

I-66 West at Route 28
Friday, March 5: 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Sunday, March 7: 10 p.m. to 4 a.m.
Full closure of I-66 West at Route 28. All traffic will be directed to exit at Route 28 North, continue north to the Westfields Boulevard West exit, stay to the right to Route 28 South, then follow signs to I-66 West. All lanes will reopen by 8 a.m. Saturday, and by 6 a.m. Monday.
I-66 East from Route 29 (Lee Highway) to Route 28
Friday, March 5: 10 p.m. to 8 a.m.
Sunday, March 7, and Monday, March 8: 10 p.m. to 4 a.m.

The ramp will be closed. Traffic will be directed to Route 28 North prior to the closure, travel north to the Westfields Boulevard West exit, then stay to the right and follow signs to Route 28 South.

Saturday, March 6: 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Full closure of I-66 East at Route 29 Centreville. All traffic will be directed to exit at Route 29, stay to the right to Route 29 North, continue north to Route 28 North, then stay to the right and follow signs to I-66 East.
I-66 West from Stringfellow Road to Route 28
Saturday, March 6, and Monday, March 8: 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Wednesday, March 10, through Friday, March 12: 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Two lanes will be closed approaching Route 28 from Stringfellow Road.
Ramp from I-66 East to Route 28 North
Saturday, March 6: 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Sunday, March 7, and Monday, March 8: 10 p.m. to 4 a.m.
The ramp will be closed. Traffic will be directed to exit the interstate (prior to the Route 28 North exit) at Route 29 North, stay to the right and follow signs to Route 28 North.
Ramp from Route 28 South to I-66 East
Saturday, March 6: 10 p.m. through mid-day Sunday, March 7
Sunday, March 7, and Monday, March 8: 10 p.m. to 4 a.m.
The ramp will be closed. Traffic will be directed farther south to Route 29 North, stay to the right to Route 28 North, then stay to the right and follow signs to I-66 East.

Saturday, March 6: 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Sunday, March 7, and Monday, March 8: 10 p.m. to 4 a.m.

The right lane of Route 28 North at I-66 will remain closed to provide an extended merge lane for the ramp from I-66 East to Route 28 North.

Stringfellow Road North and South at I-66
Monday, March 8, through Friday, March 12: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The right lane will be closed for bridge work.
I-66 East and West at Route 50
Sunday, March 7, and Monday, March 8: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
All lanes of I-66 East will be closed at Route 50 for overhead bridge beam installation. Two-way traffic will travel in a single lane each way on I-66 West during these hours.

Route 50 West at I-66 will be reduced to a single travel lane for bridge beam installation. Drivers should expect periodic stoppages of up to 20 minutes between 10:30 p.m. and 5 a.m.

All lanes of I-66 East will be closed at Route 50 for overhead bridge beam installation. Two-way traffic will travel in a single lane each way on I-66 West during these hours.
