Action in Community Through Service of Prince William (ACTS) announced today that it will be hosting its annual 5K walk/run and fundraising event, IWALK for ACTS, Oct. 3 through 11 – with a 2020 plot twist.

“We were certainly hoping to have the biggest turnout ever at Stonebridge to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the IWALK, but COVID will not keep this agency or this community down,” said Steve Liga, President & CEO of ACTS.

IWALK for ACTS was created ten years ago by Image Church of Woodbridge. Instead of duplicating ACTS’s efforts with its own services to people in need, Image partnered with ACTS to fundraise and drive awareness for the services ACTS provides.

According to Liga, “When Image Church organized a walk around Dumfries to support ACTS ten years ago, no one would have dreamed the now annual event would have raised a combined $537,000 in nine years. We are looking forward to seeing what the ten-year total will be!”

Last year’s event drew over 500 registrants and hundreds more through local sponsors and the family festival held at Stonebridge at Potomac Town Center. This year, to help the community stay safe during the ongoing challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, ACTS leadership decided to host a virtual event every day from Oct. 3 through 11. Supporters can walk, run, stroll their neighborhood, kayak, or any fun and creative activity in the local community. The goal is to raise awareness and much needed financial resources for ACTS. Additionally, participants can stay engaged in a virtual community throughout the event on social media and the IWALK website with live video feeds, photos from around the community, and a few surprises.

“By going virtual this year, instead of saying, ‘I walked for ACTS,’ you can say, ‘I walked, ran, swam, biked, paddled, or jumped rope for ACTS!’”, says Liga.

About ACTS of Prince William

Action in Community Through Service of Prince William (ACTS) is a private, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization serving the residents of the Greater Prince William Area, which includes the Cities of Manassas and Manassas Park. Established in 1969, ACTS exists to create a community where no one goes without or suffers alone.

ACTS began its mission by establishing Prince William County’s first food bank, setting up a used furniture distribution system, and developing a homeless shelter in local churches. Services now also include comprehensive domestic violence prevention and intervention, Helpline that provides an anonymous crisis telephone and referral service. The support groups sponsored by Helpline are essential to people who have lost a loved one to suicide or who have attempted suicide. Most recently, SAVAS joined the ACTS family of services in 2012 and is the only sexual assault crisis center serving Prince William County and the cities of Manassas and Manassas Park.

Today, each of the programs addresses the mission of ACTS: to foster hope, provide relief, and promote self-sufficiency for our Prince William area neighbors in crisis. For more information, please visit .org.
