The Hylton Performing Arts Center released today its schedule of performances for January and February 2018 as part of Hylton Presents, Hylton Family Series, Matinee Idylls, and theAmerican Roots Series. The wide-ranging arts programs include an Irish dance and music extravaganza, an inside look at the making of movie magic, an all-Beethoven symphonic performance, an evening of romantic pops music, a mystery-solving theater production, a folk-roots concert, and a recital by three opera divas. The calendar also features events presented by the Hylton Center’s Resident Arts Partners and local community organizations.
The New Year welcomes Dublin Irish Dance on Jan. 28 for an exploration of the Celtic experience through authentic Irish music and dance. On Feb. 3, as part of the Hylton Family Series,The Hollywood Special FX Show will expose the science and secrets behind movie magic—from special effects to action-packed stunts. One of Sweden’s oldest ensembles, the Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra, will present an all-Beethoven program on Feb. 8, including one of the composer’s most famous works, the Eroica Symphony. Just in time for Valentine’s Day, the American Festival Pops Orchestra will offer a program of popular love songs that are sure to serve as the perfect romantic backdrop. On Feb. 11, Walnut Street Theatre will try to solve the curious case of Baskerville with Sherlock Holmes and his trusted sidekick, Dr. Watson, in their new touring production. The American Roots Series continues on Feb. 17 with Ten Strings and A Goat Skin, one of Canada’s most exciting and progressive traditional groups. Matinee Idylls closes the month of February with a mid-day performance of arias, duets, and trios by three acclaimed sopranos in Soprano Soirée, preceded by a luncheon from BluSage Catering and followed by a coffee and dessert reception with the artists.
