June is membership renewal month for the Occoquan Historical Society (OHS). If this is something that interests you, please take a moment to show your interest in Occoquan’s history by joining or renewing your membership in the Society for $20.
The COVID pandemic was a challenge for the Society, closing down the Mill House Museum for more than a year and leading to the departure of a number of the museum staff. With several new staff members having come on board in the past year, the museum is now back open six days a week (closed Wednesdays) from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and staff are participating in what look to be a number of enhancements over the coming year. These include:
- Reviewing and reorganizing the collection on a chronological or thematic basis;
- Improved sales inventory and management;
- Outreach to local businesses in Occoquan;
- Restarting periodic publications about the museum collection; and
- Potentially partnering with other local museums/historical societies on a lecture program.
None of this is possible, of course, without the support of members, so if you are able, please consider joining or renewing your annual membership in the Occoquan Historical Society for $20.
