Kaitlyn Torrey, a student at Alvey Elementary School, won the Junior Division Grand Prize Trophy at the Prince William County-Manassas Regional Science Fair. Her project was “What is the Best Way to Make Water Safe for Drinking?” and was in the Medicine and Health category. She investigated different water purification methods (boiling, distillation, filtration, and chemical tablets) determining which way was the best one to produce suitable drinking water.
More than 65 judges evaluated projects exhibited by about 215 young scientists, students from public and private schools in Prince William County and the cities of Manassas and Manassas Park. All participants had won top honors as first or second place finalists at their local science competitions.
