Kyle Wilson Elementary joins a global network of schools focused on leading and learning as a Microsoft Showcase School. They are the first, and only, school in Virginia to earn this title.
“To earn the Showcase School designation, Kyle Wilson staff had to demonstrate leadership, modern teaching and learning, inclusivity, innovative learning, and participation in an active professional learning community,” said Principal Gretchen J. Drzewucki. “So far there are only 40 schools in the nation and 366 in the world to hold this title.”
The school is incorporating Microsoft tools into everything from classroom instruction to student data analysis to car rider dismissal. The initiative was led by Kyle Wilson teachers Dr. Melissa Edmonds, Alyssa Holbrook, Ashely Scott, and Riana Wilhelm (now at Fred Lynn Middle School) who make up four of only 10 teachers in Virginia to hold Microsoft’s Innovative Educator Experts status. With its new status, Kyle Wilson Elementary will receive support and guidance from Microsoft to create immersive and inclusive experiences. These are “designed to inspire lifelong learning and stimulate development of essential life skill so students are empowered to learn more.”
“Microsoft Showcase Schools are shining examples of those applying purpose-driven innovation in a variety of ways to build connection, motivate students, and to create community in and out of school,” said Anthony Salcito, vice president, Worldwide Education, Microsoft. “These schools are truly transforming learning and providing more personalized education to students, empowering them to achieve more.”
