Prince William County, Virginia: Keep Prince William Beautiful, an affiliate of Keep America Beautiful, awarded Lake Ridge Middle School seventh grader, Jonathan Brooks, their first annual Keep Prince William Beautiful Environmental Stewardship Award during the Prince William County Middle and Senior Division Science Fair on March 16, 2013. Jonathan’s project, Runaway Runoff, focused on the effect of residual water runoff on the water quality of the Occoquan Reservoir. The KPWB judges, volunteers Aliyah Jameer and Sharon Delap, were impressed with the “tremendous amounts of research” and knowledge that Jonathan presented. “KPWB was honored to present this award,” stated Executive Director Kiliaen Anderson, “as we believe the future of our planet and the future of our young people lies in teaching them the value of our natural resources. Therefore, the opportunity to acknowledge youth environmental stewardship is a vital step towards maintaining and protecting our planet.”
