When they graduated earlier this year, the Class of 2013 was urged to undertake a community service project. They definitely took the challenge to heart!
On Labor Day, the Class of 2013 hosted an event for residents, staff and volunteers at the SERVE emergency shelter in Manassas. The event included a free picnic lunch, carnival and video games, face painting, bingo, music, prizes and more.
Class member Sheyna Burt was one of the event coordinators. “I am desperately proud of what our class and friends were able to put together in a month,” she said. “From the giggly children, to the adults discussing what they would wear to (the local production of) Dancing in the Wings, to the awesome buffet, the day was an unmitigated success.”
Brad Marshall of Lean, Mean 2013 proposed the Labor Day event to his fellow class members. He hopes the SERVE event is the beginning of many community service projects for Leadership Prince William. “We need to walk the walk, not just talk the talk,” he added.
