Grab your prom dress and tux and get ready for the Under The Sea Prom to benefit the Red Cross at Heritage Hunt Country Club in Gainesville on April 26 from 7-11 p.m.

When Rebecca Vaughan King, President of Manassas-based marketing firm Imagine Design and Chairperson of the Prince William Red Cross Volunteer Council, found out that Prince William’s annual Red Cross Gala was to be cancelled this year, she brought a group of together to start planning a new event to take its place. She knew that replacing an event of such scope wouldn’t be easy.

When asked why she wanted to plan such a big event, Mrs. Vaughan-King replied, “I couldn’t sit back and know that the Red Cross would be losing over $40,000 in donations by cancelling this event. I wanted to make an event that was accessible to more people and would draw attention to our local Red Cross.”

Fortunately, she didn’t have to do it alone. Joining her in planning the event are Jason Shriner, Founder of the Aubergine Chef; Johanna Goossens, Owner of Simplicity Events; and Amanda Harper, President of Gaeltek Technology Solutions.

To date, the retro-style event has secured sponsorships from The Centech Group, Micron, Novec, Prince William Hospital and others. The raffle and silent auction items list is impressive, with items ranging from a 42” television, an iPad mini, a Kindle Fire, makeup packages, golf foursomes and numerous other generous donations.

DJ Carl Nubile will be donating his services to the event, and will spin everything from classic rock, 70-90s retro, to modern pop, rap and hip-hop. Five local bakers theme – the Aubergine Chef in Nokesville, Eloise’s Pastries of Warrenton, Happy Eatery of Manassas, Old Towne Sports Pub in Manassas and Sweet Intentions of Middleburg – will provide sea-themed cakes and desserts to complement the theme.  Event lighting is being donated by John Farr Lighting.

Other local businesses are getting involved. Blush Bridal at Atlas Walk in Gainesville will donate 10 percent of the proceeds when attendees purchase their “prom” dresses at their boutique.  Micheal Helene and My Mobile Salon are both offering a 10% donation for people who mention the Red Cross and book services on the day of the event.
