Ten local students recently received scholarships from the Park West Lions Club at a dinner meeting to recognize each recipient. Park West Lions Club President Doug Cross and Scholarship Chairperson Jim Williams presented each student with a check for $1,000.00 made payable to the university or college he or she will be attending in the fall.Jim Williams, Scholarship Chairperson, said that the selection process was very competitive. The Grade Point Averages and transcripts were only part of the process in the selection of the final recipients. Because the Park-West Lions Club is a service organization and part of the largest volunteer non-profit organization in the world, the members of the Scholarship Committee were also looking for the amount and type of service and volunteer time that the applicants gave back to the community.
