Those LOVE signs are everywhere throughout Prince William and the rest of the state! Recently, a new LOVE sign was installed at the Hampton Inn-Manassas. Prince William Living caught up with Jennifer Decker, General Manager of the Hampton Inn-Manassas, to learn more about the new sign.

“Created as part of a state and local partnership to promote travel and tourism, the artwork is an extension of the 50-year-old “Virginia is for Lovers” brand, one of the most beloved and iconic slogans in the world,” said Decker. “Virginia Tourism Corporation offers a grant to any tourism entity who would like to help promote this brand by adding a LOVEwork sign on their property. Once we were approved for the grant, they helped us throughout the whole process.”

Bringing the Sign to the Hampton Inn-Manassas

Decker describes how the idea to bring the LOVE sign to the hotel came about: As she was travelling to Pennsylvania to visit family, she noticed a LOVE sign in a field “in the middle of nowhere” next to a Virginia highway and thought, if they can put a LOVE sign there, why can’t I put one on the hotel’s property.

“I am of course excited to help promote tourism in Prince William County and Virginia but am also proud to give something as beautiful as this back to the community that they can use as a backdrop for wedding pictures, prom pictures, family photos, etc.,” Decker said.

Including the Community

Decker knew she wanted this project to include the community from the very start, so she emailed every art teacher at Unity Reed High School and pitched the idea of having them paint the letters.  “As crazy of an idea I thought it was, they amazingly responded and whole heartedly agreed to take on the project. I also reached out to local Scout Troop 1185 who landscaped the sign once it was installed so they were able to earn hours towards their conservation goal. Our guests from all over will also be able to enjoy this sign and take a little bit of Prince William County back home with them,” said Decker.

Ribbon cutting at the LOVE sign

Hotel staff has received nothing but positive feedback from the community on the project and has already witnessed families stopping at the sign and taking pictures which makes us so happy.

Decker said, “When I began looking into this project, I heard that there are a lot of travelers who travel across VA for the sole purpose of taking pictures with these iconic LOVEwork signs. I couldn’t believe it when we had a couple attend our ribbon cutting who told us that’s what they do and another family who stopped after the ribbon cutting who told me she travels to these signs with her family. This sign will bring people into our county who will possibly spend the night at a local hotel or eat at a local restaurant or stop at a local attraction while they’re here and those tax dollars go right back into the local economy.”

The Hampton Inn-Manassas LOVEwork sign will soon be listed on the Virginia Tourism Corporation’s website (LOVE – Virginia Is For Lovers) which will hopefully bring those travelers looking for unique LOVE signs to the hotel.
