Mackenzie came to VAWFSC pregnant, with a three-year-old daughter and nowhere to call home.
She shared that her future felt uncertain. But something in her heart shifted when she walked through the front door of our Haymarket House.
Through the support of VAWFSC staff and volunteers, Mackenzie stepped into every opportunity with determination, working full-time, continuing her education, showing up in ways that went beyond what anyone expected.
She tended the garden. She helped with repairs around the house. She became, quietly and powerfully, a woman who knew exactly who she was.
Today, Mackenzie is living on her own, building a career, and raising her baby in their stable, safe home.
Her story is not an exception; it’s what happens when women are met with compassion, support, and a safe place to call home at Virginia Women and Family Support Center.
VAWFSC’s 24-month program gave Mackenzie the time she needed. Not 30 days. Not a shelter bed. Two years of consistent support, wraparound care, and the dignity of a real home, so she could build something real for her family.
