Quality family time. It’s something we all want more of but continue to struggle to fit into our schedules, even if we resolved back in January to do so. Although your schedule may change from one week to the next there are several small yet impactful changes you can make to create more openings for family time. This extra time will help you and your loved ones create memories you will cherish for years to come, but will also keep you connected in your current life.

Schedule Family Time on The Calendar

When your children were younger and had fewer extracurricular activities it was easier to find the spontaneous moments of quality time. As your children’s schedules begin to rival your own you must actively schedule time together on your shared calendar. However, you must do more than just schedule a block of time together but select an actual activity. You must also treat this time with as much respect as you would any other commitment. In other words, no canceling because things get too busy. Below are a few ideas include:

  • Game night
  • Picnic at the park
  • Bike ride
  • Hike
  • Cook or bake
  • Arts and crafts
  • Volunteer together
  • DIY home project
  • Read a book together
  • Attend a local activity or event

Take a Mini Trip

A day trip to a nearby attraction, town you have never visited or to visit friends and family is an excellent way to spend more time together as a family. Also, take advantage of those three-day weekends which provide ample time for a quick flight or road trip. Mini trips can include anything from casual camping to staying in a mid to high-end hotel or Airbnb. Getting away for even a day will help to break the monotony and provide you and your loved ones with quality time to bond. Consider making these trips fully or semi-unplugged. If you need someone to complete a few household errands while you are out of town, Errand Works is always here.

Create More Time in Your Schedule

It might sound impossible, but you can create more time in your schedule. The first step is to create a schedule, both individual and a shared family calendar. As you go about your day create a to-do list of items that need to be completed over the next few days and weeks, and look for ways to maximize your time. For example, you might not have time to do much during your daughter’s one-hour karate class, but you may be able to squeeze in a trip to the craft store down the street. You could also consolidate your errands and knock them all out on one day, maybe even together as a family.

When your resolution is to create more family time, Errand Works can help you create that time by taking tasks off your plate. This might include dropping off or picking your car up for repairs, picking up dry cleaning, taking your pet to the vet, shopping, delivery service, organization services, and more. These are all errands that need to be done but not necessarily by you.
