Manassas 2024 Business of the Year, Chamber Awards Winners Announced

On Friday evening, Feb. 23, 2024, the Prince William County Chamber of Commerce hosted its Annual Business Awards Dinner at Foxchase Manor in Manassas to honor the best of the local business community. Awards recognize excellence in business, innovative practices, and outstanding contributions to the community and businesses/organizations that stand out among their peers.

The City of Manassas presented its “Business of the Year Award” to Micron Technology, Inc. Four additional City of Manassas-based companies are taking home the highest honors in various categories.

Micron Technology, Inc., is a global leader in the semiconductor industry and a major employer in the City of Manassas, employing over 1,300. Their memory products are the number one export in Virginia and they are the number two manufacturer of memory in the world. The company continues to be a great partner within the community, specifically within education. Micron knows that education and a strong community are vital to the success of both society and innovative companies, and they remain an ardent partner in Manassas and the surrounding jurisdictions.

Micron was instrumental in securing $250,000 in the first round of GO Virginia funding for a state-of-the-art engineering technology “Fabrication Laboratory” in Northern Virginia. This project will help create high-paying engineering jobs in the greater Manassas region by leveraging established internship programs at Micron Technology and BAE Systems as well as the existing SySTEMic curriculum at Northern Virginia Community College’s Manassas campus. Micron has committed $3 billion to its future R&D and growth potential making Manassas home to the largest capital investment in Virginia’s history.

AGNES L. COLGAN COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARDS — ARTS & EDUCATION: ARTfactory

ARTfactory

Founded in 1984 by a group of artists and art lovers, ARTfactory (previously known as Center for the Arts) relocated in 2002 to the old 1908 Hopkins Candy Factory building at 9419 Battle Street and has become the cornerstone of Historic Downtown’s arts culture.

ARTfactory is best known for its service to the Manassas community, providing a wide range of culturally relevant exhibits and events that celebrate the City’s rich diversity and heritage. At the wildly popular 2023 Latin American Cultural Expo, attendees enjoyed a full month-long exhibit celebrating local painters and artisans representing Mexico, El Salvador, Puerto Rico, Peru, and Guatemala.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH AWARD (11+ EMPLOYEES): Manassas Ballet Theatre

Manassas Ballet Theatre, known as Manassas School of Dance during its original opening in 1983, recently celebrated 40 years in operation.

Under Amy Grant’s creative direction, Manassas Ballet Theatre’s annual budget has grown from $30,000 to $1.4 million and is now formally recognized as the 78th largest ballet company in the nation. This growth has brought the City 25 professional dancers, 45 musicians, and at least four yearly productions totaling over 20 performances.

Annually, over 100 dancers audition to join Manassas Ballet Theatre. Some travel from as far away as China, Brazil, Japan, and the Near East to do so. MBT regularly offers scholarships and free workshops, as well as six performances at the Hylton Performing Arts Center each year for over 6,000 area public school students. This makes MBT the host of one of the largest educational outreach programs in all of Virginia.

GOVERNMENT CONTRACTING COMPANY OF THE YEAR: ECU Communications LLC

ECU Communications LLC is an award-winning woman-and-minority-owned company originally established in 2004. The company is a full-service digital marketing communications agency that has developed award-winning campaigns for dozens of local, state, and federal government agencies, as well as leading non-profits, and private sector brands.

ECU has worked with highly visible federal government agencies and local clients alike, offering an ‘extremely close up’ examination of every client’s unique defining angle and tailoring strategies that show success in detail.

The campaign ECU created for a a multi-million-dollar contract with the Small Business Administration recently won four Platinum MarCom Awards from the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals, recognizing national excellence in creativity, marketing practices, digital communications, and media.

VETERAN-OWNED COMPANY OF THE YEAR: MP Copiers, Inc.
