The City of Manassas Finance Department has won an eighteenth consecutive award for the excellence of its fiscal year 2022 budget presentation.

The Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) is the highest form of recognition in government budgeting.

“Producing the City’s annual budget takes a year-round effort from the City Manager and a dedicated budget team along with extensive input from all City departments and thoughtful deliberations by the City Council,” Finance Director Diane Bergeron said.

“The award represents a significant achievement by the entity,” the GFOA reports. “It reflects the commitment of the governing body and staff to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting. In order to receive the budget award, the entity had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. These guidelines are designed to assess how well an entity’s budget serves as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide, and a communications device.”
