Manassas Midwifery & Women’s Health Center recently celebrated its fourth year of serving women and families in Manassas with an open house. More than 535 women receiving prenatal care from the midwives have given birth in area hospitals or in a nearby birth center. Milestones for the midwifery in 2013 have included expansion of the current two-suite office to three units at 8425 Dorsey Circle in Manassas. MMWHC has been awarded a second year grant by the Potomac Health Foundation to continue women’s health care and pediatric care at its sister site, Dumfries Midwifery, serving families in Dumfries, Triangle and Quantico. MMWHC has been approved for a Strong Start Grant in collaboration with four other maternity care practices throughout Virginia, all offering CenteringPregnancy® care, an innovative model of group prenatal care. MMWHC also supports bringing more information of evidence-based health care to Manassas through its support of the Prince William Chapter of Birth Matters Virginia. The Prince William Chapter of Birth Matters Virginia meets Thursday, Sept. 12 at 6 pm at Manassas Midwifery, 8425 Dorsey Circle, Suite 101. Coordinator Sharon Hamon-Boomer has invited guest speaker Michelle Winters, owner of Sleep Well Solutions and a trained Gentle Sleep Coach and Maternity and Child Sleep Consultant. Michelle will be talking about pregnancy sleep, getting your newborn off to a good start and good sleep hygiene for babies, toddlers and beyond. Come with your questions – Michelle is fun and will make you laugh as you learn how to solve some of your sleep challenges. The chapter meeting starts off with a potluck and conversation so please bring a healthy food to share. Children, dads and families welcome.
