Margaret “Meg” Turlington is a litigation associate with Compton & Duling, L.C., focused in the domestic relations practice. Having been through her own divorce, Meg is particularly sensitive to the complex emotional aspects of any divorce. She is affirming of non-traditional and queer relationships, She brings an understanding and nonjudgmental approach to assisting clients through difficult times.

Meg’s litigation style is informed by criminal prosecution experience, making her a dynamic advocate in protective order cases. She served as a Guardian ad Litem for abused and neglected children during her time at Duke Law School. Her passion for protecting children continues today. Meg also has significant estate planning and administration experience, having served as Staff Attorney to the Hon. John H. Rust, Jr., Fairfax Commissioner of Accounts. She is admitted to practice in Virginia and Maryland and practices throughout Northern Virginia.

Outside of the courtroom, Meg volunteers with Destination Imagination, a non-profit which hosts tournaments for students to compete in STEAM-based challenges. As secretary for the Arlington Commission on the Status of Women, she advises the Arlington County Board regarding issues affecting women in the community. She is currently President Elect for the Prince William chapter of the Virginia Women Attorneys Association.

What is your job and how long have you been with Compton & Duling?

Attorney, three years.

Briefly describe what a day in your work life looks like.

My day is filled with calls and emails from clients who are going through one of the hardest times in their lives. I just try to make it a little easier [for them].

What is the best part about working for Compton & Duling?

Compton and Duling is always understanding and supportive of our commitments outside of work, whether family issues or community involvement.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

Yoga, travel, and going to the theater.

What has one of your proudest moments working for Compton & Duling?

Partner Maryse Allen and I were back to back best oral argument winners at the Virginia Women Attorneys Association Annual Cocktail Contest.
