The Elite Spanish wines of CVNE, Clos Figueras, and Vega Sicilia, Mon. Feb. 3

It’s not every day you get to taste wines with a Master of Wine…actually, it’s not every day a Master of Wine comes to Prince William County, Virginia and conducts a tasting.  After all there are only 312 MWs currently living in 24 different countries, and they are in demand throughout the wine world.

The title of Master of Wine is an incredibly difficult qualification to obtain, and requires an encyclopedic knowledge of viticulture, oenology, history, politics, and business of wine . Since 1953 a total of 366 men and women have passed the Institute’s exams and become Masters of Wine.

Colin Gent works for the Bordeaux-based wine broker EUROPVIN, and is responsible for portfolio selection and supplier relations, communications and press. A graduate of Oxford University, where he majored in Philosophy, Politics and Economics, his wine career has taken him from London to Bordeaux via Napa Valley, Paris, Provence and Tokyo. He obtained his Master of Wine in 2003.

Winestyles staff said they are very excited that Mr. Gent has agreed to visit Prince William and present some of the worlds greatest Spanish wines from the legendary wineries of CVNE, Clos Figueras and the Vega Sicilia Group.  The tasting will feature selections from the “big four” red wine regions in Spain; Rioja, Ribera del Duero, Toro, and Priorat.

The following wines will be featured (wines and vintages subject to change based on availability):

  • 2012 CVNE Monopole Rioja Blanco
  • 2006 CVNE Vina Real Grand Reserva Rioja
  • 2009 Bodegas Benjamin de Rothschild Vega Sicilia
  • “Macan”, Rioja
  • 2006 Clos Figueras Font de Figuera Tinto, Priorat
  • 2009 Bodegas Pintia (Vega Sicilia Group) Tinto, Toro
  • 2009 Bodegas Alion (Vega Sicilia Group) Tinto, Ribera del Duero
  • 2008 Vega Sicilia Valbuena, Ribera del Duero
