Provided by Prince William County Schools (PWCS)
Twelve middle schools across Prince William County Public Schools were represented at the second annual PWCS Math Quest held at Lake Ridge Middle School. Approximately 85 sixth, seventh, and eighth graders came together for a morning of problem solving, teamwork, and friendly competition.
Students from the different schools formed teams and worked together to solve team and individual challenges. They had the opportunity to collaborate with peers, share problem-solving strategies, and learn mathematical concepts taught by volunteer students from Potomac High School’s National Honor Society.
The event concluded with a recognition ceremony in which students were applauded for teamwork, mathematical communication and reasoning, highest team score and highest individual score. Students recognized were from the following schools: Benton Middle, Gainesville Middle, Graham Park Middle, Hampton Middle, Lake Ridge Middle, The Nokesville School, Pennington Traditional School, Rippon Middle, and Woodbridge Middle.
Math Quest is coordinated and put on by the Office of Student Learning. Middle school teachers from across the Division also support the annual event.
