The Mayfield 6th Grade Band earned four Superior Ratings at the Virginia Band and Orchestra 2016 Spring Assessment.
The group earned an overall Superior Rating as well as a Superior Rating from each of the three judges. “Getting a Superior is a difficult challenge especially at such a young music level,” said Mayfield Intermediate School Band Director Keith Wilfinger. “However, for the students to earn a Superior individually from each of the judges is extremely noteworthy.”
Spring Assessments are held annually and provide an opportunity for bands to perform in front of a panel of three judges made up of middle school, high school and college level music directors. PWL The event is rigorous in expectations and helps directors improve student performance, evaluate fundamentals being learned by students, as well as improve the school music programs. The event also serves to give students accountability for their musical fundamentals learned as a performing large-ensemble.
