Memorial Service Honors Fallen Firefighters

Evergreen Fire Department

Evergreen Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad took part in honoring fallen fighters at the 2013 Memorial Service held at the Richmond International Raceway on June 1st. These brave men and women were recognized by the Virginia Line of Duty Act and were honored for their selfless acts. The 2013 service paid tribute to the following:

Joshua Weissman of Alexandria Fire Department

Zachary Whitacre of Gore Volunteer Fire Department

Jonathan Myers of Norfolk Fire & Rescue

John Echternach of Boones Mill Volunteer Fire Department

David Chew of Bloxom Volunteer Fire Department

Pug Wells of Elliston Volunteer Fire Department

Mark Baban of Fairfax County Fire Department

Clyde Berry of Hopewell Fire Department

Eldridge Canaday of James City County Fire Department

Joshua Culler of Disputanta Volunteer Fire Department.

In addition the courageous men listed above, the service commemorated all of Virginia state firefighters who have given their lives in service.

The service included a keynote address, a procession featuring pipes and drums of the Honor Guard, musical performance and a display of fire apparatuses from departments all over Virginia. State flags were also presented to the families of the fallen fire fighters.
