Grace E. Metz Band, Orchestra and Guitar students earned overall Superior Ratings (the highest rating possible) in two local competitions on Saturday, May 21.

Metz Band competed in the Music in the Parks competition at Busch Gardens, Williamsburg and was awarded First Place out of eight bands in the class 2A category (larger school enrollment) for the east coast region. “[The students] were extremely professional and it was their most complete performance of the year,” said Bill Stevens, Director of Bands for Osbourn High School and Metz Middle School. “In fact based on scores they beat several high school programs.”

Metz Orchestra competed at the Kings Dominion Festival of Music. The group brought home top honors with scores of 97 percent from each of the three judges, earning them First Place and the Grand Champion award.  According to Metz Orchestra and Guitar teacher Darlene Dawson, the judges commented on the precision, power and energy of the ensemble, the attention to musical detail, and the “stellar teaching and learning going on at this school.” Additionally, Metz Guitar Ensemble brought home scores all over 95 percent.  It was an outstanding day for the Metz Music Department!
