Manassas business owner Kayla Dreesen recently won the title of Mrs. Prince William County 2019 from the Mrs. Virginia America pageant. She will go on to compete for the title of Mrs. Virginia America on March 23 in South Hill, Virginia. If she wins the Mrs. Virginia title, she will compete for Mrs. America in Las Vegas.
The pageant’s mission is to celebrate the uniqueness of married women, their families and the change they make in their communities. The pageant is open to women 18 years of age and up who have been married for six months or longer. Nineteen women from across Virginia will be competing in Interview, Swimsuit, Evening gown and On-stage Interview for the chance of being the next Mrs. Virginia America.
In addition to being a titleholder and wife, Kayla owns a business that specializes in hair and makeup for weddings and special occasions called Love Letters by Kayla. Her work has been published in blogs and magazines. The work she is the most proud of is being asked to do hair and makeup for guests for the Inauguration, the White House Correspondents Ball and the Kennedy Center Honors.
She currently volunteers for an after-school program in Georgetown South, teaches arts and activities at a girls club, teaches a Sunday School class with her husband and works closely with Devotion to Children (devotiontochildren.org) based in Reston. Kayla volunteers with young people so often because she sees the importance and benefits of making sure they have a mentor and people that are cheering them on. “I grew up with such a supportive family, church and mentors and have been incredibly successful because of that. I want to see people reach their greatest potential and I believe that it starts with our children.”
The Mrs. Virginia pageant will be held at the Colonial Theatre in South Hill on March 23 at 5:30 p. m. Tickets are for sale through Mrs. Prince William County or at the door the day of the pageant.
