Nature Visions Photo Expo is proud to announce its 16th annual nature photography expo staged by eight nonprofit camera clubs in the Washington, D.C. metro area. The Nov. 3-5 expo features dozens of classes taught by expert photographers and a free photography exhibit open to the public. “We’ve become the ‘go-to’ event for Mid-Atlantic photographers because we provide the best value in photography education and attract the best  photography educators nationwide,” said Nature Visions President Roger Lancaster. “We’re thrilled to accomplish our main mission of promoting participation in photography and its appreciation.”

Held at the Hylton Performing Arts Center in Manassas, the expo includes free entry to an exhibit
of joyous and incisive photos that were juried into it. There are 350 nature photos in several categories (birds, wildlife, flora, water, landscapes, and macro close-ups) and 150 entries in the “Photo Art” category. Some of the photographs, which were taken by members of the sponsoring camera clubs, are for sale—just in time for the upcoming holiday season. Participants can attend eight free classes along with 38 fee-based seminars and hands-on photo sessions led by expert photographers. They can also register to have their photos critiqued by many well-known photographers. Nationally known photographer Matt Kloskowski kicks off the expo Friday, Nov. 3 with an all-day workshop on mastering landscape photography. International and local vendors will also be on hand, including District Camera, Hunt’s Photo & Video, Canon, Nikon, Fujifilm, Olympus, Tamron, Sigma, Swarovski, and photography tour companies.

This year, for the first time, the world-renowned Nature’s Best Photography magazine is sponsoring the keynote speaker, Melissa Groo. Groo is a wildlife photographer, conservationist, and ethicist, whose photos have been published in numerous books and magazines, such as Smithsonian and Audubon. She writes a wildlife photography column for Outdoor Photographer magazine, contributes to Audubon magazine, and advises the National Audubon Society on photography content as well as ethics in bird photography. Groo has won many photography awards, including Audubon (2015 Grand Prize winner), Nature’s Best, and the North American Nature Photography Association. She’ll speak about her journey into wildlife photography, sharing basic tips on ethical photography of wildlife and touching on the power of photography to affect conservation.
