Visiting Rippon Landing Neighborhood Park and the new boardwalk that crosses the Julie A. Metz Wetlands is easier now with the recent completion of the Neabsco Regional Park Parking Lot. The lot, located at 15125 Blackburn Road, Woodbridge, offers parking for boardwalk and park visitors and for commuters as well.
The lot sits adjacent to the neighborhood park and is just a short walk away from the Neabsco Creek Boardwalk. It’s proved to be a popular attraction since its opening in June.
The lighted lot, with close to 100 spaces, was built with money from proffers. Those are voluntary contributions developers make to the county to offset any adverse effects development might have on the community.
Steve Stevens, a Prince William County Department of Transportation traffic and safety manager, said the lot and trails through a section of the park to the boardwalk are compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
In addition to the new parking lot, an old nearby lot was removed and replaced with greenery, Stevens said. “The old gravel parking area at Rippon and Blackburn was all reforested. We put all sorts of trees and local indigenous plantings in that area.”
