The City of Manassas has hired Michele D. Gehr, MSSW to serve as Director of Social Services effective Sept. 16, 2019. Michele comes to the City of Manassas with more than 10 years of experience as a strategic program leader. She has designed, implemented, managed and evaluated programs and personnel.
Michele earned her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Holocaust, Genocide, and Peace Studies from the University of Nevada-Reno. She earned a Master’s degree in Social Work from Columbia University. While at Columbia, Michele was accepted into the Management Fellows Program (MFP), an exclusive course of study that focused on high-impact non-profit management from a social service perspective. She has spent many years working with young people as a Youth Director. Most recently, she was the Executive Director of the Eddy House. This facility works with homeless and at-risk youth in northern Nevada to develop life and job skills necessary for sustainable independence.
As Social Services Director for the City of Manassas, Michele will oversee a department of dedicated social service employees who work each day to promote the stability, self-sufficiency and well-being of city residents by assisting with basic needs, protecting children and providing information and referrals to community resources.
