❤️ My Library: 2020 Edition

COVID-19 changed the world as we know it. In March 2020, Prince William Public Libraries closed its doors, but not its services. The Digital Library and access to mobile apps like Libby, by OverDrive and hoopla Digital ensured that patrons were still able to enjoy e-books, audiobooks, movies, tv shows, and more. Access to the Digital Library was increased to give the public the ability to use sites like Ancestry for Libraries, previously only available in the branches.

The library system went virtual with its programs in a matter of days after closing the libraries. Staff knew how much story times, STEAM programs, and more help your child’s development and learning, and they didn’t want to waste any time (and they didn’t forget you either, with virtual book clubs, RELIC programs, and Kitchen Secrets!).

“But what we really want to say is… THANK YOU. Thank you for being part of our supportive community through this difficult time. Thank you for checking out books – both physical and digital. Thank you for joining us for virtual programs and for coming by to borrow Wi-Fi hotspots and use the computers when we were able to safely reopen this summer,” reads the Library System’s latest update.

They continue: “Now, here’s the fun part! We are awarding you for sharing with us how the library has been there for you this year. We’re looking for short videos (shorter than one minute), photos, or drawings to help tell our shared story. Complete this form by Friday, Nov. 20 and four randomly selected recipients will receive a $25 gift card, courtesy of The Fauquier Bank. Your videos, photos, ad drawings will be compiled into one “story” of how Prince William Public Libraries has helped you and your loved ones this past year.”

Rules:

  • All ages may apply.
  • Submissions must be entered by 11:59 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 20, 2020.
  • Only one submission per person.
  • At least one person in the family must have a valid PWPL library card.
  • Video must be a maximum of one minute.
  • Video must be original content.
  • Video production (filming) must not violate PWPL Code of Behavior.
  • Submit photos (jpg or png), videos (mp4), or drawings (jpg, png, or PDF), through this entry form.

By submitting a photo/video and signing the release form, PWPL has rights to the video in perpetuity and may use the video for public communication and marketing. By signing the release form, you agree to give copies of editable files as PWPL may choose to use all or part of submitted videos to create new/original content.
