The Marine Corps Heritage Foundation will accept nominations for its 2018 Annual Awards Program starting Oct. 16. Each year, the Foundation presents a series of awards for creative works preserving or advancing Marine Corps history, traditions, culture or service. Marines and civilians are eligible to submit their own artistic entries or the distinguished work of others. Awards will be presented at the Foundation’s annual award ceremony on April 28, 2018 at the National Museum of the Marine Corps. The deadline for submissions is Jan. 6, 2018.

The Annual Awards are presented in 15 categories including journalism, documentary, literature, screenplay, photography and poetry. The Foundation also honors individuals who have demonstrated leadership in their profession by presenting the John A. Lejeune for Exemplary Leadership Award and recognizes those who have provided unique and significant service to the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation with the Heritage Award. Last year’s Lejeune Award winners were President George H.W. Bush and First Lady Barbara Bush, while the former Chairman of the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation, General Walter E. Boomer, USMC (Ret), was honored with the Heritage Award.

A panel of experts from major regional and national media outlets, authors, noted photographers and Marines, will review the awards submissions. For a detailed list of the awards as well as submission requirements, please visit marineheritage.org/AwardsProgram.

“The Marine Corps Heritage Foundation’s annual awards program provides us the opportunity to celebrate individuals who creatively portray the Marine Corps’ culture and history,” said Lt. Gen. Robert R. Blackman, Jr., president and CEO of the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation. “It is an honor to recognize individuals and their ability to effectively communicate the importance of the U.S. Marine Corps to the history of the United States. The artistic work of Marines and civilians alike helps us preserve and promulgate the history and tradition of the Corps.”

Submitting a nomination is free. For additional information on the Annual Awards Program, please visit marineheritage.org or to schedule an interview about the program with a Foundation representative please contact Paulo Sibaja at psibaja@susandavis.com or 202.414.0798.
