“Monk’s Dream” by Ignacio Alperin

Artwork by Ignacio Alperin will be on exhibition in Colgan Hall at the Manassas Campus of Northern Virginia Community College from May 5 to 31.

Alperin was born in Argentina, grew up in Australia, and has lived and traveled throughout Europe, America and Southeast Asia.

With a strong interest in music ranging from jazz to soul, blues and bebop, Alperin has created his own visual language through the same methods of inventiveness and spontaneity as musicians. He uses spectacular spiral lines and longitudinal strokes which glide through the canvas, outlined by an energetic use of the primary palette, extracting shades and gradations that have become a signature of his bold and powerful style.

Most of his works over the last decade are part of his Visual Jazz series which has been exhibited in New York, Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Buenos Aires, Lisbon, Zurich and London.

The exhibition is free and open to the public. Colgan Gallery is open 8:00 a. m. to 9:00 p. m. Monday through Thursday, and 8:00 a. m. to 5:00 p. m. on Fridays. To learn more, contact Art Professor Rosemary Gallick at rgallick@nvcc.edu.
