NOVA-Woodbridge to host 2017 Innovation Hackathon, April 21-23

Approximately 250 students from Northern Virginia Community College and other colleges, interested locals and 70 local high school students have registered to attend 2017 Innovation Hackathon. The 36-hour-long competition will focus on offering hands-on experience to promote cybersecurity through analyzing secure coding methods.

Lisa Fairchild Jones, CEO and co-founder of SafeTComm, Inc., a company that provides technology solutions for governments, municipalities, Fortune 500 and 1000 companies will be the keynote speaker for the event. In addition to the competition, highly-trained cybersecurity experts will speak to participants on topics involving computer science and information technology through “Tech Talks.” Competition participants as well as the general public will also network and explore career opportunities with local IT and cybersecurity companies at a job fair held on Saturday, April 22 at 5:00 p. m., as part of the hackathon weekend event.

Background:  A hackathon is an event of any duration where interested volunteers come together to solve problems creatively using technology. Each participant will learn about programming, technology and security by applying each skill to complete challenges for a chance to win prizes. 2017 Innovation Hackathon is sponsored by The Coca-Cola Company and CACI International Inc.
