NOVEC and Electric Cooperative Association Award Scholarships to Area Students

Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative (NOVEC) and the Virginia, Maryland & Delaware Association of Electric Cooperatives (VMDAEC) awarded college and higher education scholarships to 16 Northern Virginia high school seniors in May.

NOVEC Scholarships

NOVEC awarded $1,500 scholarships to 13 high school seniors after reviewing 95 applications. Judges evaluated applicants’ academic records, community involvement, work experience, demonstrated leadership, recommendations, and essays.

NOVEC’s 2022 Local Scholarship Winners

  1. Johnathan Fleming — Manassas Park High School, City of Manassas Park
  2. Winston Broiles — Battlefield High School, Prince William County
  3. Eleanora Baranowski — Forest Park High School, Prince William County
  4. Andrew Cheripka — Forest Park High School, Prince William County

“The scholarship judges had a difficult time choosing among many outstanding applicants,” says Jenny Shaskan, NOVEC communications and engagement specialist. “All of us at NOVEC congratulate the selected students on their excellent school and community-service accomplishments. We look forward to seeing what the future holds.”

VMDAEC Education Scholarship Foundation Winners

The VMDAEC Education Scholarship Foundation awarded $63,500 in scholarships to students who receive power from electric cooperatives in Virginia, Maryland and Delaware. The foundation selected recipients based on their academic achievements, financial needs, and personal statements. The scholarship money will help with tuition at the college, technical, or trade schools they will attend this fall.
