Artist Statement:
Art imitates life in this new collaboration of two innovative artists, Traci Oberle and Gloria Benedetto. As the world operates in subtle tones spiced with colorful events, so do these artists. Their works of found objects, paint and graphite balance the art of grisaille against works of vibrant colors. Experience art created with shades and tones spiced with works of rich color.

Artist Statement
To me, art is a means of communication that goes far beyond subject matter alone. Although direct reference can be used to motivate the mind or evoke a reaction, visuals can be configured to move a person and trigger aesthetic responses on much broader and hopefully, deeper, levels. These abstract drawings are from a nearly daily drawing journey from which I have been exploring conceptual structuralism.

I find graphite to be both an incredibly versatile and neutral medium which allows for expressive explorations into the potential of line as well as subtle “breathable spaces.” For these graphite works line is a character supporting a conversation among spatial areas. Each of the images constitutes an evolving journal of ideas, considerations and concepts, which have in turn, helped shape the blueprints of my larger works.

Vulcan Gallery Studio Artist Space Exhibition: “From the Fire”
“FROM THE FIRE” EXPLORES FIVE APPROACHES TO A WOOD FIRING
LORTON, VA – Five diverse ceramic artists challenge themselves to create personal work for a joint firing in “From the Fire”, an educational exhibit of 30 works and concomitant photographs and text.
Curated by Brian Grow, the kiln builder of the Cheltenham (PA) kiln that was used for the September 2013 firing, the show’s focus is how each of five artists (Pam Eisenmann , Brian Grow, Carol Tripp Martens, Hadrian Mendoza and Joan Ulrich) considered and created specific works for a shared wood firing. “Wood firing is in and of itself an outrageous process, fully consuming and engaging.” Grow said. “I challenged my Workhouse colleagues to make work for my kiln, knowing this would force some creative stretching.”
