The Prince William County School of Practical Nursing will hold a Graduation and Capping Ceremony on Friday, June 2 at 6:30 p. m. at Osbourn Park High School. The graduation marks a student’s successful finish of the practical nursing program which takes 18 months to complete.
The preclinical instruction phase is taught at Osbourn Park High School and runs for nine months followed by nine months of supervised clinical practice where students are involved in direct patient care and classroom activities for seven hours each day.
The Capping Ceremony, a tradition that dates back to the founding of modern nursing, marks the transition between phases and is held at the beginning of the student’s clinical experience.
Students who satisfactorily complete both the preclinical and clinical phases of the nursing program are eligible to take the State Board of Nursing examination to become a licensed practical nurse.
