Provided by Town of Occoquan
As a means of encouraging healthy outdoor activity, supporting Town businesses, and assisting local nonprofit organizations during the difficult times of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Town of Occoquan is sponsoring a “Virtual” 5K through June 10. All of the gross proceeds from the “Virtual” 5K will go to VFW Post 7916, The Good News Community Kitchen and the Occoquan Historical Society’s Mill House Museum, who has agreed to use any proceeds to purchase gift certificates from Town businesses.
To participate in the “Virtual” 5K individuals register online and then walk, run, hike, bike, kayak, canoe, or SUP a distance of 5K (3.1 miles) on their own anywhere, including on a treadmill in their home, sometime between now and 11:59 p.m. on June 10, 2020. Once a participant completes the run or walk, they go to the relevant link below to report the date, start time, and end time of their run/walk. If able, participants should upload a legible screenshot of a GPS or equivalently-tracked recording of their run/walk when uploading results.
All registered participants who complete the event will receive an event t-shirt. As part of the registration process, all participants will also be asked to commit to making a good-faith effort to order online or by phone a gift card or curbside, pickup-to-go service from an Occoquan business.
Registration for the Occoquan “Virtual” 5K is $25 dollars and includes the event t-shirt, which will be available a few weeks after the event.
