OmniRide Celebrates 35 Years of Service with a Packed Summer

OmniRide has had an exciting summer. The organization, in partnership with the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority (NVTA), hosted a ribbon cutting for OmniRide’s Western Bus and Maintenance and Storage facility on Aug. 11. The day also marked the kick-off of 35 days of celebrations to mark the 35th anniversary of providing mobility services in the region.

Members of the Board of Commissioners and distinguished guests were in attendance at the ribbon cutting and gave remarks: Executive Director of OmniRide Dr. Bob Schneider, NVTA Executive Director, Monica Backmon, NVTA Board Chair Phyllis Randall,Chief of Public Transportation at the Department of Rail and Public Transportation Jennifer DeBruhl, Potomac and Rappahannock Transportation Commission (PRTC) Board Chair Margaret Angela Franklin, and Manassas Vice Mayor Pamela Sebesky. Also in attendance were President and CEO of Keolis Transit America Aline Frantzen, President and CEO of Keolis North America David Scorey, and Senior Vice President of Operations at Keolis Transit America Mike Ake. Keolis has a contract to operate and maintain OmniRide’s bus service.

The event marked the beginning of celebrations for staff and the public to celebrate the organization’s milestone anniversary. OmniRide is inviting the community to join in on 35 days of celebrations by participating in contests, a digital scavenger hunt, and a chance to win prizes. The public may even learn OmniRide history and about exciting future plans along the way. Celebrations will last until September 15.

The organization provides local bus service in Prince William County, Manassas and Manassas Park; Express service for commuters along the I-95 and I-66 corridors to employment centers in Northern Virginia and Washington, D.C.; and Metro Express which connects riders with Metro Stations. OmniRide also offers assistance to carpoolers and vanpoolers and coordinates a variety of employer services to help businesses to implement and expand commuter benefit programs.
