Artist Statement- “ON THE GOLDEN EDGE OF REALITY” – Karen Chin

Karen Chin works in oils, but is equally at home with collage and multi-mixed-water media. She is influenced by her time as a middle school Art Teacher and active duty Army officer. Subject matter for this exhibit reflects her appreciation for things around her. The exhibit title gives a nod to reality while inviting the viewer into an expressive view of that reality. Exhibit pieces are colorfully robust and each is touched with a little, or a lot, of gold to remind the viewer that there is richness where you start as well as wherever you complete your adventure.

Karen’s art work has been juried into exhibits in Virginia and North Carolina, with sales from events in both states. She has work in permanent collections at Mount Olive College-Wilmington, NC, and in Crystal City, Virginia. She has also exhibited at the Towne Bank, Virginia Beach; and she has participated in three annual Burgwin-Wright House “Paint Out” events in Wilmington, NC. These NC plein-air events resulted in annual sales and the historic Civil War era house has asked to retain several of her pieces for both display and sale in the House Gift Shop. In March 2015, two of her works were selected by the City of Manassas, for their Banner Art Project. This project features artists’ works in banner form around the city.

She is a member of:

Springfield Art Guild, Springfield, VA

Wilmington (NC) Art Association

Collage Artists of Wilmington (NC)

Art Guild of Clifton (VA)

Karen is an Associate Artist at the Workhouse Lorton Arts Center, Lorton, VA. The Associates exhibit exclusively in the Gallery at Building 9 of the Workhouse. This is the group’s exhibit space. Karen’s studio is in her home.
