Osbourn Park High School alumna Emma Schlauder has received an Open Study Research Fulbright Scholarship Award. She recently graduated from Boston University with a Bachelor of Arts in history and archeology and a minor in classical civilization.

Thanks to the Fulbright Scholarship, she will attend the University of Sheffield in the United Kingdom to pursue her Master of Science in human osteology and funerary archeology. This program will provide Schlauder with the opportunity to study gravesites from both a scientific and a cultural perspective and allow her to gain a better understanding of their social standing and how it affected their burial site.

Schlauder said of her field of study, “Nearly every culture has an aspect that revolves around funerary beliefs. Through organizing exhibits that showcase differences and similarities, I hope to achieve a level of understanding amongst extinct and existing cultural groups.”

The Fulbright Scholarship Award is one of the most prestigious national academic awards for undergraduate students in the U.S. This program began in 1946 and is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.
