We’re over the hump in this short week! We’re here twice a month to let you know what’s going on in the area each weekend. Here are just a few of the events happening locally on Thanksgiving weekend and the first weekend in December.

Nights of Lights at Prince William Fairgrounds

The Prince William County fairgrounds will be putting on a drive-through lights fest combined with a walk-through Christmas Village and Carnival Attractions that will inspire hope, joy and unity this holiday season! Occoquan HolidayFest

There’s nothing like the holidays in historic Occoquan! This year, see the popular annual tree lighting at Town Hall, the Shop & Win! contest, #ShopSmall promotions at businesses, Santa arriving by boat, and a staged reading of A Christmas Carol in the park. NEW to the line up is a two-day Holiday Artisan Market in the park with crafters and artists, carolers, hot cocoa a-plenty and a special visit from Santa! Cheers to Four Years!

Start your Thanksgiving weekend at Sinistral Brewing’s fourth anniversary celebration. Live music with Christopher Roll at 3:30 p.m. and with Smylin Jock at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 24, 3:00 to 11:00 p.m. | Sinistral Brewing Company, 9419 Main St., Manassas

Chris Yung Memorial 5K Turkey Trot

Team Prince William Inc and 2 Silos Brewing Co are proud to host a 5K (3.1 mile) walk or run to support Chris Yung’s family by honoring and remembering him. Proceeds help to fund the Chris Yung Memorial Fund and to support the family’s participation in the annual Road to Hope with Team Prince William LEU. Anyone can run, walk or volunteer at this event.

Performances of “The Nutcracker”

Virginia National Ballet presents the 9th Annual performances of The Nutcracker, the first of the Holiday Season in the Northern Virginia region. This a highly anticipated and popular event includes beautiful scenery, costumes, choreography (by Artistic Director Rafik Hegab), and dancing on stage at the beautiful Hylton Performing Arts Center! The Academy of Russian Ballet is returning to the Hylton stage with their beautiful production of The Nutcracker. The production features exquisite costuming, Russian hand-painted sets, and talented and award-winning dancers create one of the region’s most magnificent and anticipated productions. Nokesville Community Christmas Tree Lighting

Join Santa and Mrs. Claus as they light the tree and welcome in the holiday season in Nokesville!

Merry Old Town/Christmas Parade

Santa Lights Manassas, also known as the Tree Lighting, takes place on Friday, Dec. 3 at 5:15 p.m. The magic of the evening begins with holiday musical performances and then Santa arrives at the Manassas Depot on the VRE train shortly after 6:00 p.m. After Santa lights the tree, he greets all the children and listens to their holiday wishes. Families can visit the Manassas Museum and store, as well as enjoy free wagon rides to get into the holiday spirit. The Harris Pavilion Ice Rink will be open for business as well as the downtown shops and restaurants. Merry Old Town continues through Sunday, Dec. 19. The Greater Manassas Christmas Parade has been a fixture in the community for 75 years!  It has become one of the largest holiday parades in Northern Virginia with over 100 units; marching bands, floats, high-flying balloons, and more!  The parade sets the mood for the holiday season has become a family tradition with multiple generations lined up to watch the parade! Saturday, Dec. 4, 10:00 a.m. | Historic Downtown Manassas

Holiday Market

Come find unique gifts, crafts, specialty items and your favorite treats. Event is held at the same location as the weekly Sunday Farmers Market. Saturday, Dec. 4, 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. | 14050 Gemini Way, Woodbridge

Rocking Around the Boardwalk

Bring the family and friends for a stroll on the Neabsco Creek Boardwalk for a unique holiday display of decorated trees. There will be music, S’mores and the tree display to kick-off the season. Wear your winter finest, including those ugly holiday sweaters and view this one-of-a-kind seasonal treat. Saturday, Dec. 4, 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. | Neabsco Regional Park, 15125 Blackburn Road, Woodbridge
