It’s Wednesday and we’re Over the Hump! Here are a few things to look forward to this weekend:
All weekend long, the City of Manassas will host the first-ever Manassas History Weekend. The City will honor the service of veterans from past and present, focus on this region’s wartime and peacetime military history, and include activities for all interests and ages. The free weekend will kick off Friday night with a tour of the Manassas Cemetery, 9317 Center Street, at 8:00 p. m. Friday, Aug. 24- Sunday, Aug. 26 | Historic Downtown Manassas
The Quantico Triathlon will be held Saturday morning at Marine Corps Base Quantico. The Quantico Tri features a start near Officers Candidate School, a 750 meter open water swim in the Potomac River, and a 20K (12.4 mile) cycle tour of the Marine Corps Base. The Quantico Tri will conclude with a 5K run. For those who just want to run, the Marine Corps Marathon introduces the Quantico 12K, to be hosted alongside the Quantico Tri. Enjoy a display of vintage and classic cars on the lawns of Rippon Lodge Historic Site. Ask questions, take pictures of the beautiful vehicles and cast your vote for your favorite. Guided tours of the lodge, conducted on the hour, are $5 per person. Car clubs and individual participants must register to bring their vehicle. 703-499-9812. $5.00 suggested donation. Head over to Leesylvania State Park on Saturday evening for Music at the Marina featuring the U.S. Army Band Downrange. Brew Republic Bierwerks has something on tap for everyone on Sunday! Rescheduled from earlier this summer, Sub-Radio will be giving a concert at River Mill Park in Occoquan. Washington, D.C.’s Sub-Radio makes smart, danceable pop rock that’s always expanding its boundaries. The sextet’s high-energy live performances and variety of outstanding vocalists have put them on the map up and down the East Coast.
