It’s Wednesday and we’re Over the Hump! Here are a few things to look forward to this weekend:

Historic Manassas is hosting a “Back to School” First Friday on Sept. 7. Write by the Rails will be doing a live reading at 6:30 p. m. inside CENTERFUSE with a few special authors selling their books outside. Abacus Robotics will be demonstrating their student projects near the Man Cave. Baldwin Elementary School will be showing “Despicable Me” on the Manassas Museum Lawn in English and Spanish at 7:30 and 7:45 p. m. as a fundraising event. Osbourn High School students will be making marble paper out of whipped cream and food dye. Check out Unity Works LLC outside of CenterFuse and Tavares Taylor Charities, Inc. on Battle Street to donate school supplies to children in need. While you’re in Manassas for First Friday, stop in at McCall Studio Gallery for their Arts Event. They’ll have watercolor and travel photo art exhibits, live flute music, food and wine. “Avengers Infinity War” (PG-13) is showing at River Mill Park in Occoquan on Friday evening. Bring a blanket or lawn chair and pick up a snack in town or pack your own and head down to River Mill Park for movie fun and stunning views of the Occoquan River. Feel free to come in costume! Signal Bay Waterpark is hosting the 9th Annual Doggie Paddle, the end of the summer dog-only swim! Your dog can jump in the lazy river, splash in kiddie pools, and run through sprinklers. NEW DATE for Prince William County’s premier Chili Cook-Off and Fall Fest at Stonebridge at Potomac Town Center! Exhibitors, vendors, and top notch entertainment will begin at 11:00 a. m. Look for lots of interactive activities and prizes. The event will close with a family friendly movie at 7:00 p. m. on the Mega Tron with popcorn available compliments of Wegmans! Historic Downtown Manassas will hold its 8th Annual Bands, Brews, and Barbecue Festival on Saturday.  This ticketed event features award winning craft beers and distilled spirits for sampling, some of Northern Virginia’s best barbecue, incredible live music, and a cornhole tournament. The Prince William County 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb is a way to honor and remember the FDNY firefighters, police, and EMS who selflessly gave their lives so that others might live on 9-11-2001. Each participant pays tribute to an FDNY firefighter, police officer or EMS by climbing the equivalent of the 110 stories of the World Trade Center. The Stair Climb benefits the FDNY Critical Support Unit and the programs provided by the National Fallen Firefighter Foundation to support the families of our nation’s fallen firefighters. The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) is hosting the Manassas Out of the Darkness Walk on Sunday. Funds raised from the Out of the Darkness Walks allow the AFSP to invest in new research, create educational programs, advocate for public policy, and support survivors of suicide loss.
