About Dr. Ricks

Dr. Ricks, owner of SBR Workplace Leadership Services and an associate professor at Northern Virginia Community College in Woodbridge, has dedicated her career to empowering individuals and students. Her leadership and advocacy for anti-bullying has significantly impacted the lives of many.

“I am truly humbled and honored to receive this recognition,” said Dr. Ricks. “Inclusion and creating a safe workplace and learning environments is my passion, and I believe everyone deserves to work and learn in a comfortable setting to maximize their opportunity to succeed. I am grateful for the chance to serve and positively impact the lives of students and workplaces.”

Dr. Ricks has over 10 years of experience in education, working in a variety of roles from teaching in a religious girls’ academy to instructor at the Occoquan-Woodbridge-Lorton Volunteer Fire Department and instructing with the International Fire Chiefs Association, creating anti-bullying training.  Her expertise, developed through experience and a doctoral education in organization, management, and leadership have been instrumental in transforming struggling businesses and non-profits into high-performing organizations.

Testimonial from Nefr Michaels, Founder and CEO of Care With Love: “Dr. Ricks is an amazing person and we are so proud and privileged to have her as part of our organization.   Dr. Ricks is born to be a teacher. She has this charisma when she starts teaching. She uses all kinds of teaching methods to stimulate the audiences and includes them in the training.   She is always over prepared with everything she might and might not need to do.   She is passionate about everything she does.  She is always there half an hour before the training starts.   Dr. Ricks is a person to depend on. She is a very reliable and responsible person. She has the “Yes, I can” attitude.  She never said no, anytime we needed her.  She is always available, whatever the date and time is…Dr. Ricks provided many training sessions to our staff and other communities.  She has impacted so many people by enhancing their skills.  We are blessed and grateful to partner with Dr. Ricks in any training.”

All of this was accomplished through a period of personal difficulty, health challenges, and the fact that Dr. Ricks discovered she has profound hearing loss and has had to adjust and overcome this new challenge and has not let it stop her from achieving her goals.
