Christ Chapel Ministries has announced that Pastor Bill Roberts, the church’s Senior Pastor for the past 33 years, will be retiring on June 30, 2021. A transition process is ongoing to identify and select the next Senior Pastor.
Pastor William T. (Bill) Roberts has served as the senior pastor of Christ Chapel Ministries, a multi-faceted and culturally diverse Assemblies of God Church on Smoketown Road in Woodbridge, since 1988. Along with his wife, Lynna Roberts, they have touched thousands of lives in Prince William County, Northern Virginia, and beyond, in faithful ministry. During their tenure, Christ Chapel, with a mission to “Reach People, Teach Truth, and Unleash Disciples,” has grown to over 2,000 congregants, a K-12 Christ Chapel Academy, and Valley Forge Christian College Woodbridge, an undergraduate and graduate-level college, as well as support of missionary work around the world.
“Serving here at Christ Chapel has brought us great joy. During our tenure, we have met so many wonderful people who have touched our hearts in ways we will never forget. We have been blessed immensely,” said Pastor Roberts in a statement to church members.
A founding member in 1996 of the multi-denominational Prince William County Ministerial Association, Pastor Roberts was instrumental in organizing “A Taste of Heaven,” a biennial racial harmony effort of a joint service among fifty churches across the county’s Christian faiths. Christ Chapel Academy has been honored multiple times as Prince William County’s finest private school. A partnership with Valley Forge Christian College in Pennsylvania established the VFCC Woodbridge Campus, offering both undergraduate and graduate-level programs. Under Pastor Roberts, the church has become well known with the full-gospel message through its regular services to all age groups and through the presentation of major Easter and Christmas productions depicting the birth, life and sacrifice of Jesus Christ.
“We are extremely grateful for Pastor Roberts and Lynna for their love and faithful service that they have given to Christ Chapel and the Northern Virginia community for the past 33 years,” said Ray Canada, Chairman of Christ Chapel’s Board of Directors. “They have touched thousands of hearts and lives. We look forward to celebrating their many contributions and accomplishments in the months ahead.”
Pastor Roberts entered ministry in 1983 following 20-plus years of service as an Army officer. He received his theological training through the Assemblies of God Global University system and is ordained by the General Council of the Assemblies of God. Pastor Roberts also served as an Executive Presbyter for the Potomac District of the Assemblies of God for over fifteen years during which he oversaw more than 100 churches and 300 ministers in the Northern Virginia, West Virginia, and Washington, D.C. areas.
A farewell event will be held in June.
