Digital Breakout Rooms, Kindles in the classroom — these are just a few examples of the content featured on The PWCS EdTech podcast, a bi-monthly program offering professional development about technology in schools. The show premiered a year ago and is hosted by its creators, instructional technology coaches Brian Simpson from Beville Middle School and Elizabeth Engelbret from Fred Lynn Middle School.

“We wanted to put together a new form of professional development in Prince William County that could offer flexibility and choice,” said Simpson. “There are so many of us out there doing great things and coming up with better solutions to common hurdles, but how do you share it with the masses?”

Simpson said that professional developments sessions are great opportunities for staff members to learn about new technology, but sometimes busy schedules are an obstacle to attending professional development.

“Because of these obstacles, the PWCS EdTech Podcast was born,” he said.

Simpson and Engelbret often bring other IT colleagues onto their show to share strategies and spotlight what’s new in educational technology. They strive to create a podcast that listeners can learn from at their own pace.

“I’ve really enjoyed the podcasting experience,” Simpson said. “These conversations give me the perfect opportunity to reflect, and possibly grow, at least twice a month. I hope that our listeners feel it’s time well-spent.”

The PWCS EdTech podcast releases new episodes the 1st and 15th of every month during the school year. The show can found on Podbean or Apple Podcasts.
